It was a beautiful Sunday as customers packed into the newly opened SPAR store in Opebi. Stocked shelves, a bakery counter filled with everyone’s favorite snacks, the staff ready to serve - just a typical outing to the neighborhood supermarket to get ready for the coming week.
However, the SPAR customers were in for a treat when the Nigerian Supporters Club, the band that plays for the Nigerian national team, showed up for a surprise performance. Starting from outside the store, they began with their recognizable trumpet melodies that were soon to be accompanied by the rhythm of the drums and percussion.
Customers stopped and turned their heads to look and see what was going on as the band made their way into the store in colors green and white, lifting the spirits of everyone around them with every sound of their horns. Children in the store watched in awe, and their smiles shined even brighter as artists decorated their cheeks with face-paint and glitter. Everyone was enamored by the positive energy and patriotism on display, and joined in to dance and celebrate the national team and country. It was quite the spectacle, as people from all nationalities participated, and shared in the country's culture. The SPAR staff and customers expressed their best wishes to the team, and their gratitude to the performers, who evidently had just as much fun entertaining everyone.

Nigeria has a longstanding love for football, and the Super Eagles have qualified for the round of 16 at the African Cup of Nations in Egypt. The three-time champions have put on strong performances so far, and with the whole country behind them, there’s hope and belief they’ll go all the way this year.
